How Technology Could Be Harming Kids’ Overall Health

How Technology Could Be Harming Kids' Overall Health

Technology could be harming the overall health of kids because it exposes them to stressors and ideas that are bad for them. All these little things add up to make it harder for kids to live their lives. Technology can be one of the best things to happen to the public, but there are some things that all parents should consider when their children are using technology every day.

Technology Can Be Exhausting

It is very easy for a kid to stay up all night on their tablet or phone reading articles, playing games, talking to friends, and checking social media. All these things are good on their own, but they can be exhausting for a kid who is not on a good sleep schedule. Parents need to counteract this by using apps that help kids sleep the right amount of time. The phone or tablet could be turned into a device for good.

Body Image

Girls have much more access to the people that look perfect on social media. A girl can have a poor body image purely because she sees a girl from school posting pictures from the beach in a bikini. A girl who is young could start to think that she needs to look perfect like these girls, but she does not realize that she did not mature or grow like that girl did. The same can be said for boys who see guys working out andf sculpting their bodies at a young age.

Depression

Technology does not make kids depressed, but there are certain kids who might fall down the rabbit hole of depressive ideas when they are using technology too much. They are constantly shown images that make them feel as though the world is completely dark, and that could be hard on them. Kids need to look at positive things online, and they must be asked to focus on something that is exciting and interesting. If they are not doing that, technology is draining them.

Over-activity

Kids start to compare themselves to other children because they can see that these kids are very successful. Kids often get depressed because they think that they have to get their lives together in a very short period of time, and they are not given any perspective about growing in their own time.

Compassion Fatigue

Compassion fatigue is a real problem for kids because they see bad things going on in the world that they cannot fix. They make friends halfway across the world that they cannot help instantly. These kids must have a chance to get away from their fatigue by using technology for positive and fun things. All these things are meant to be moderated, and they will find that a balance in their life makes things much easier.

Conclusion

Kids who have figured out how to balance their technology with their sleep schedule, personal growth, and plans for the future will find that they are not as unhealthy as those who get sucked in completely.
